Nickita Sammy of Accokeek was the passenger in a Hyundai traveling south on Branch Avenue at the intersection of Earnshaw Drive in Brandywine, where the driver attempted to make a left turn and was struck by a BMW driven by Timothy Brickhouse, 26, of District Height on Wednesday, Jan. 10, Daily Voice reported.
Nickita was pronounced dead at the scene, while her driver was hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.
Meanwhile, more than $8,600 has been raised on a GoFundMe launched for Nickita’s 13-year-old daughter, Nevaeh.
“She was an amazing person, friend, sister, daughter and most importantly, mother,” reads the campaign.
“Nickita spent a large portion of her young adult life working tirelessly to ensure Nevaeh had great life experiences. Often, Nickita held two to three jobs at a time all while pursuing a bachelors degree. Nickita, as any great mother would, made several sacrifices to ensure that she could give her daughter the world.”
Tributes poured in on social media following Nickita’s heartbreaking passing as well:
The funds from the campaign will be used to support Nevaeh and help invest in her future, the GoFundMe says.
“Though Nevaeh is surrounded by family and loved ones who will continue to support her in many ways throughout life, the absence of her MOTHER will truly impact her on a daily basis,” reads the campaign.
“Although we recognize that we will NEVER be able to replace the void of Nickita in Nevaeh's life, we are trying our BEST to ensure that Nevaeh still has the ability to enjoy the experiences that her mother wished to provided for her. These funds will be invested and used solely for NEVAEH in every and any capacity to help supplement her needs over the years.”
Nickita’s memorial was scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 20 at Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
“Nevaeh, you were your mom's EVERYTHING,” one donor commented on the campaign.
“Please never forget her words, her love, her teachings to you. She loved you beyond anything in this world and she will always be with you. Please ALWAYS do right and continue to make her proud. We are so sorry for this tremendous loss.”
